We all need that extra push and the hand to help us get right back up sometimes directly or indirectly. He saw a reflection of himself in the little boy, struggling to get back on his feet after being knocked down, and being hurt/ pain but pushing forward. With the girl, he saw someone much like himself too focused on what they going through, and not so much the pain the others are in too. The girl turns back to apologize for hurting the kid, then continues the race. The guy found motivation to get back at it and runs towards the goal he is chasing too. It's very wholesome and a small story about self-reflection with some growth as a person. I love stories like this
The girl VA be like "I'm getting paid to pant for 5 min"
She has a promising future in hentai. :P
So mean, lol
nice little wholesome story
Love the lighting created by pastel
Ikrrr! It looks simple yet so gorgeous! I think it's semi-watercolor-ish with pencil. Really cutesy dreamy vibe (*˘︶˘*).。.:*♡
I’m missing something. Can someone explain what’s going on here? What was in his pocket? Was the girl trying to find the little kid so she could apologize
I think he was a chef that gave up on his career and was carrying his chef hat. seeing the little girl coming back to apologize even though it's a bit late gave him hope that it's not too late to fix things
Condoms.
She's going to check on him
Beautiful story for only 06:30 min., you should watch.
Congratulations dude, Beautiful animation! Good Job
Why are you congratulating him as if he was the one to create this?
that's gudshit right dere
Did anyone get the last ending image? the kids removed the training wheels.
Why I'm... 。゚(゚´Д`゚)゚。
Looks absolutely beautiful! amazing work.
Plot twist:
oof,, I get you were going for a joke here... but... oooof
don't
Decided to search up information on the animator cause I was interested. The animator behind this is an absolute legend. He's a self-taught CG animator and he's the only animator in 30+ years to ever get full scores on his entry. The judges said he will one day surpass the director of "Your Name" and "Weathering With You," Makoto Shinkai. Lots of high hopes for this animator, and I wish him the best of luck. This abstract piece hits me dearly as something that applies to my daily life right now, even if I interpret it much differently compared to the others in the comments below. It's what's great about it, in how it hits differently in your interpretations as a child versus as an adult. It's fine if others do not feel the same way.
Hi, if you don't mind could you share your interpretation and how you think it hits differently for adults and children. My interpretation more or less matches those that i have seen in the comments, I'm quite interested to hear yours.
Nicely done
Glad I clicked on it. Loved it.
The artwork was very nice, and it was... cute. Heartwarming, potentially. If you have one of those.
I've to start running again. I'm gaining fat.
oneshot
but for anime
Nice romance between a thug and a schoolgirl.
where did you even get romance from
Such a beautiful piece of art.
6:30 minutes well spent.
Watch out for them corners
cute and wholesome
nah whats wrong with that girl i would have clocked her if i saw that
Somebody wanna explain to me why this won an award and people are saying it's good?
Cause I'm seriously trying to see some greater meaning behind this, some subtext or something, and the best I can get it is that the whole 'intersection' thing is the point, where 3 lives intersect each with their own struggles and problems, prejudice for Yankee-kun, physical weakness for Sports Club-chan and Jitensha-ko learning on his first day without training wheels that some people don't care if they knock you down in the street and hurt you... Which doesn't really make for an interesting story so still don't get why it's acclaimed.
Whats interesting or not is subjective at the end of the day, you're not forced to like it either.
But the reason why I find it, beautiful is, as you mentioned it shows the struggles of 3 different people and them overcoming those hurdles at the same time. We saw the kid pushing the bike, after he fell down, but when he saw his mother he decided to suck it up and even had the courage to get back on the bike. The girl even tho she was completly exhausted she went all the way back in order to help the kid.The Yankee looking guy, followed them aswell to help, dispite knowing that they probably look at him differently due his scary looks.
Its a story of taking your chances, to not feel regret.
Not to mention representing the courage of those people as well.
And all of this told with barely any dialogue.
It might be far fetched, but thats the way I interpretant it.
But thats the beautiful thing, about abstract pieces since its so vague, its all up to your interpretation.!

Hmm given your comment got so many likes (relatively) I'm guessing your takeaways from this anime are pretty representative of a significant number of people who enjoyed this.
I suppose this just isn't my thing. A potential problem when using a soft-touch and allowing a story to breathe and be open to interpretation is that it can seem meandering and lacking in consequence or insight. That said I don't think this is pointless or abstract for the sake of being abstract, the author/creator had a clear image in his head of what he wanted to achieve and communicate, but whatever that was, and what significance it held for him, it's just not connecting with me.
Either way, if anyone reading this likes interesting little short anime stories try Wasurenagumo it's 24 minutes long and very memorable.

This short is pretty mundane, but I think that's part of the beauty in it for some people. The simplicity of how everyone's daily lives are, and how fleeting moments and meetings can affect surrounding lives in small but also big ways. I also personally feel like they expressed the emotions quite well of the mundane struggles of the boy learning to ride a bike and the girl keeping up with her team mates. But yea I can also see how it is a bit boring as there are many shots with not much going on.
And idk much about the award, how the judges judge, or what the other entries are like, but perhaps many animators would try to make their plots deep and complicated. So maybe this short stood out against the rest as a breath of fresh air because of its simplicity? Idk just a thought, could be wrong lol.
Thought it was boring myself. In the end the girl learns not to be mean and the punk gets thanked and the little boy no longer needs training wheels. Of course the punk could have reorganized his appearance the little boy could have rode his bike on the road like you're properly suppose to do and the girl could have stopped after knocking the kid off the bike resulting in all this being a pointless happy short.
yep. too boring. skipped most parts
No wonder it is award winning animation, People might have their own interpretation about this beautiful 6 min animation. I don't know if I understood what writer was trying to covey or not but after watching it I felt lighter , happier and felt warm inside.
wowowowowow
Not a single second wasted 👏🏼 Conveying so many emotions and thoughts with so little words in 6,5 minutes is what you call true art.
This short piece gives a nice take on regrets , second chances and how to persevere
The art style is pretty impressive
Overall , a breath of fresh air
I can totally understand why this would get an award
Always on the run.
I was ready to ignore this but that animation style got me. Also having a story there without much words. It's new and refreshing.
That was really good, the artstyle really worked for it, and I loved how simple a story it told without really any words.
Having said that, I'm a bad, bad person, and was half hoping (expecting?) to see Truck-kun come flying out of the white as the little boy crossed the road without looking.
That's such a nice art style
How the fuck this one won an award?
My interpretation: - The guy looks like he just quit/walked out of his job (presumably as a cook/chef considering his attire and the hat he crumples up and puts in his pocket) and is waiting for the bus to go home - He sees the incident happen and the girl who is clearly flustered/struggling with what she's trying to do and gives up on helping the boy - He helps the boy up, and sees how the boy keeps it together and keeps going despite the fall - He then sees the girl return to make sure the boy is ok, despite how much she's clearly struggling with the run - Seeing both of them continue to push on despite the obstacles in their path gives him new resolve to go back and face whatever issue he was having at work
